REUS, WHERE HISTORY MEETS MODERNITY

The capital of Baix Camp can be considered a true sanctuary of modernist architecture, both for its emblematic buildings and for the personal mark left by masters such as Gaudí and Domènech i Montaner.

Reus is also the town that has seen the birth of personalities from the world of literature, such as the poet Gabriel Ferrater or the theater director Lluís Pasqual.

Those who visit the city will not be able to miss some of its flagship institutions, such as the Bartrina and Fortuny theaters, nor forget the aroma of gunpowder that gives off the tronada, the central act of the crowded Festa Major, which takes place in the beautiful Plaça del Mercadal.

CASA NAVÀS

You can start with the guided tour “Vermouth and stores with history” to know the oldest establishments in the city, followed by a visit to the Vermouth museum to finish with a glass of this traditional drink on the terrace of the establishment itself. After regaining strength with the signature cuisine of Reus and wines from the nearest D. O., we can approach the Casa Navàs, modernist style, and let ourselves fall in love with its impressive stained glass windows and brittle.

MODERNIST ROUTE

The other great master of modernist architecture, Domènech i Montaner, is the main protagonist of the Modernist Route, a journey through twenty-seven buildings in the municipality. The most famous, surely, is the Casa Navàs, located in the Plaça del Mercadal, the work of Domènech i Montaner, decorated with a great profusion of floral elements and very colorful and detailed stained glass windows.

Gaudí centre

Reus is synonymous with modernism. The presence of Gaudí and his legacy can be felt throughout the city, especially in the Gaudí Centre. It is a modern cultural facility dedicated to explaining the secrets of his life and work, through audiovisuals, interactive models, scenographies and other state-of-the-art techniques. In addition, you can also follow his footprint along the Gaudí Route, a sentimental itinerary through the buildings that were part of his life.
